About

The Australian Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians (AGFR) is over 40 years old and in 2019 it will hold its 41st Annual Golf Tournament.

For the past 40 years a group of avid Rotarians have been holding an annual golfing tournament with a two-fold purpose: (i) to raise funds for charitable works conducted by the host Rotary Club and (ii) to provide a scholarship for a young apprentice Australian greenkeeper to travel to the US to study the latest in greens maintenance.

In May 2019, the three Rotary Clubs of Alice Springs will host the tournament in Alice Springs hosting 144 entrants with the majority now being over 70 years of age, at the Alice Springs Golf Club.

Australia's golfing legend, Peter Thomson, with his business partner, Michael Wolveridge, designed and constructed the course during the early 1980s. It is currently rated 92nd in the top 100 courses in Australia in The Golf Course Guide, and 14th in Australia for aesthetics. The championship layout has large teeing blocks, fully grassed rolling fairways and huge, well-bunkered putting greens set against the stunning natural backdrop of the ancient MacDonnell Ranges.

Despite the age of the contestants, this is not a Saturday afternoon friendly. This is a highly competitive event conducted over three days with prizes being awarded in a number of categories:

  • Rotarian Team with the highest aggregate Stableford score.
  • Rotarian Team with the second highest Aggregate Stableford score.
  • Rotarian with the highest Individual Aggregate Stableford score and the title AGFR Champion with Handicap.
